Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:11
Moving towards our destiny with knowledge that God’s grace is sufficient! That’s what I’d sum up Prophetess Juanita’s message for me on Saturday. What an awesome surprise to witness Dr. Juanita Bynum at the Hampton University Convocation Saturday evening. So much has been said and reported about Dr. Juanita Bynum that the average person I am sure would not have been able to withstand that mental and physical pressure cooker experience she recently endured. In my estimation time has revealed an even more ardent warrior for winning souls for Christ.
She has spoken and it is evident that her spirit is resilient! Her sermonic messages and music indicate that her soul remains anchored in the Lord. Dr. Juanita Bynum has managed to beautifully handle the criticism, constant media bombardment and personal assaults and yes, the continuous scrutiny that was meant to harm her not help her. But God fights our battles and she remains truthful to her calling of empowering others through the gospel of Jesus Christ! She is our valiant poster person. She’s blessed and triumphant! My heart is glad about her ability to move ahead!
To God’s testament there she stood this past Saturday, pouring out her soul, espousing the attendees at the Hampton University Convention Center to trust God to take us through hurts and disappointments to the other side. It is true that our trials can be traumatic, but we don’t have to be strangled on defeat or die from them. Prophetess Juanita Bynum reinforced her teaching points with personal testimonies and the Holy Scripture to get the listener to understand and appreciate God’s plan and the necessity required in order to move from our brokenness to victorious living. She further demonstrated the importance of abandoning tradition mindsets that are steeped in religion and tradition. Instead she maintains that we understand our need should be to embrace spirituality rather than religion. Spirituality builds a solid relationship with the Lord. It’s a firsthand intimate knowledge of who we are in relationship to God. We can then move from strictly knowing Him as a distant father figure to the lifter of our souls, our heavenly “daddy.” He desires to loves us and covers us with his strong arm of protection!

Her teaching emphasized the importance of praying to the Lord and honestly sharing our hearts which usher us to a level of thanksgiving – with joyful praise and worship which makes the devil’s efforts of our demise, simply futile. The enemy and his agenda is impenetrable around and through God’s supernatural force field or as scripture reminds us is our hedge of protection. The enemy’s efforts are halted; he can’t ever enter the Holy of Holies.

I sensed that prophetic revelation occurring all the more on Saturday evening. It was such good spiritual food. Surely there was an awakening for the speaker and those who that evening who were witnesses to the goodness of the Lord. I appreciated that moment as I observed her genuinely interacting with the audience speaking prophetically about what sayeth the Lord. It was evident that her anointing is more powerful, urgent and honest!

Juanita Bynum has a timely word that reaches even further to those everyday folks like you and me that are challenged with the complexities of surviving in this age. I really appreciated when she shared that during her most turbulent time in her life, her beloved father-her “daddy” remained her cheerleader, her anchor and confidante. He reminded her to forgive, move beyond her depression, and remember her name!

My soul celebrated that occurrence. Isn’t that what God requires of us? God admonishes us to lean on him but be about His business of sharing the gospel? We must recall: we are accepted, his beloved children and to lean not on our own understanding, but instead to trust Him? Remember that we can take to heart that:
We are Adopted by God…. (Ephesians 1:5)

Have Access to God’s Grace….. (Ephesians 2:8+18)

We are Reconciled to God…. (Romans 5:10)

We’ve become a New Creature in Christ … (2 Corinthians 5:17)

We are Elected (saved)… (1 Peter 1:2)

We have Received an Anointing…. (1 John 2:27)
My soul was bulging with all of the rich revelation and sound knowledge that Dr. Bynum shared as she encouraged us not to be afraid and to embrace spirituality instead of religiosity. To honestly confess our shortcomings, but acknowledge God’s supremacy and magnificence. I particularly appreciated her warning us to stop judging those that aren’t the cookie cutter parishioners and to understand that their spirituality is a personal matter between them and God. She further encouraged us to move from despair to our destinies!
Juanita Bynum I thank you for freely sharing your gifts and providing ample manna from heaven through your anointed message! Yes, it was a heavenly banquet and friends you are invited to partake also. Good news Dr. Bynum will be returning to the Tidewater area on August 19th and 22, 2009. For God’s gifts and His call can never be withdrawn”
(Romans 11:29, NLT).
God made it so easy for us today through the insightful message from the Foundation for A Better Life’! What immediatley came to mind was BULLS EYE! The message was right on target! Nothing in our lives just happens without some initiative, planning and preparation; we learn from many life lessons that wishing is often futile!
“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward,
you’re always in the same place.”
—Nora Roberts (b. 1950), fiction author
Nora Roberts must have experienced going after what she desired and finally it happened. Possibly it was the book being published, the house being built, the garden planted, the children’s play house constructed, the long awaited adoption, the love one returning, the peace of mind had, the coins needed, the healing, the expectation-the answer to a prayer. I feel the Holy Spirit urging us not to abandon our heart’s desires and exercise our initiative, to seek, find, walk , run whatever it takes to accomplish our desired goals.
I encourage you to always pray, read scripture for your diivine vitamins, and apply His word! Lord knows it takes stamina and energy and not always our own.
But God can surely shore up your strength as you recall the vitality and committment you posssibly once had to get moving closer to your goal.
Ask the Lord for directiion and trust that He’ll do just that and then allow you the opportunity to realize what awaits you! His resources are amazing and plentiful!
Remember to shout, “Bulls Eye!” for God’s faithulness and your resolve to move ahead! Shout “Bulls Eye” for many victories accomplished as you build your foundation for a better life.
Come on friends get your archery supplies in order and embrace the call and gifts that God has purposed in you!

Sun Masked Plate

“For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who can annul it?
And His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back”
(Isaiah 14:27, AMP).
Friends I earnestly believe that this is more for me than for you today. Of course I couldn’t rest until I shared this! I trust God in urging me to write in order that’ll we’ll all benefit from today’s lesson.
At the conclusion of my conversation with my mother yesterday early evening, I was compelled to request, “Mama please pray for me.!” I then said , “What would we do without our Mamas!” She laughed and readily agreed that that was the truth. Before hanging up the phone she once again assured me that the decision I would make would be the right one and that God would provide me the needed direction regarding my next steps.

Why was I feeling counter to this reality?

Sometimes we say one thing but doubt creeps in.

Certainly I was sure of this but-you know that word “but”- which usually means we’re not quite sure of things! Reservation takes hold of our thoughts and uncertainty propels us to wonder if things really will turn out anything like we’d hoped for? Well that hesitancy must have said to my spirit that that wasn’t faith, that that was doubt rearing his ugly face causing me anguish! I then said, “I need to act like I know! Act like I know God’s in control and will see me through!”

Yes, I spoke it and understood once again that feelings often cloud divine reality for a believer. What appears isn’t always the true indicator of what will be!

God‘s mighty outstretched arms twist the fate of doubt. But is a grammatical exception, it’s generally negative, it’s the flip side has no place in the believer’s life. It’s prosperity ruined, it’s hope dashed, it’s the rain before the storm, it’s but; and it’s dismal, it’s dim and it dashes dreams and aspirations. Scripture beautifully steps over that conjunction and states that:

“For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who can annul it?
And His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back” (Isaiah 14:27, AMP).

Enjoy the well-timed devotional that I received today from Joel Osteen entitled: God’s Outstretched Hand. Friends as you reflect on this scripture and writing I will take my own medicine and act like I know God’s outstretched hand protects, guides, nurtures and sweetly comforts me and you! No ifs ands or buts!

“For the Lord of hosts has purposed,
and who can annul it?

And His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it
back” (Isaiah 14:27, AMP).

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria:

As believers, you and I have an advantage. We don’t have to go through life
just depending on our own talent, our own ability, our own strength. The
Scripture talks about how God’s hand is outstretched toward His people. That
means there is a supernatural power behind every believer. God’s outstretched
hand will help you accomplish dreams that you thought were impossible. His
outstretched hand will cause you to get well even when the medical report says
there is no way. The outstretched hand of God will help us to prosper even when
the economy is down. Let this sink down into your heart today. All through the
day, imagine God’s hand outstretched toward you. It is a hand of healing, a hand
of favor, a hand of restoration. No matter what you may be facing, you have to
realize there is a force for you that is greater than any force that will ever
be against you. You’re attitude should be, “I am not settling where I am. I know
I have an advantage. As a child of the Most High, I know God’s hand is
outstretched toward me.”

Father in heaven, thank You for Your
outstretched hand of protection and provision for me. I choose to lay aside
every fear and every concern knowing that You will make a way for me. In Jesus’
Name. Amen.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 139:13,14 (New International Version – UK)

Happy Friday my friends! For many of us it’s a day to slow our pace, smell the roses, breathe and acknowledge that it’s a TGIF (Thank God’s It’s Friday) moment. We’ve been through many emotional roller coasters-but we made it. I wanted to just share something inspirational to help you jumpstart your weekend. Think of this as a work reprieve.

Yes, I am sure your agree respite is in order, but it’s appropriate, I believe to first acknowledge God for his sweet grace and mercy! He has seen us through another week! As we prepare to enter into a more relaxed mode I wanted to provide you with some inspirational jazz music from a festival; but I really didn’t locate what I had desired, so I thought instead; I’ll let you select your own favorite artists but delight you with one of my favorite poetess.

Yes, she’s the incomparable, the magnanimous, the genius, the marvelous, the wonderful Nikki Giovanni. This seasoned, sanctified poet will delight your senses and lift your spirits. You’ll really celebrate her creativity and brilliance of conveying who’s you are and to whom you belong! In our spirits friend we can confidentlyego trip (the holy scripture gives us divine license) to comfortably declare to the world:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139: 13,14 (New International Version – UK)

Take a moment to enjoy this you tube video of Nikki’s poem: Ego Tripping and thank the person who wonderfully selected images that reflect Nikki’s expressions. And for those that aren’t familiar with “bad” in the vernacular it means awesome. Keep ego “tripping ya’ll” God is well aware of our praise and thanksgiving!

Ego Tripping by Nikki Giovanni (1973)

I was born in the Congo.

I walked to the Fertile Crescent and built the sphinx.
I designed a pyramid so tough that a star
that only glows every one hundred years falls
into the center giving divine perfect light.
I am bad.
I sat on the throne
drinking nectar with Allah.
I got hot and sent an ice age to Europe
to cool my thirst.
My oldest daughter is Nefertiti.
The tears from my birth pains
created the Nile.
I am a beautiful woman.
I gazed on the forest and burned
out the Sahara desert.
With a packet of goat’s meat
and a change of clothes,
I crossed it in two hours.
I am a gazelle so swift,
so swift you can’t catch me.
For a birthday present when he was three,
I gave my son Hannibal an elephant.
He gave me Rome for mother’s day.
My strength flows ever on.
My son Noah built an ark and
I stood proudly at the helm
as we sailed on a soft summer day.
I turned myself into myself and was Jesus.
Men intone my loving name.
All praises all praises,
I am the one who would save.
I sowed diamonds in my back yard.
My bowels deliver uranium.
The filings from my fingernails are
semi-precious jewels.
On a trip north,
I caught a cold and blew
my nose giving oil to the Arab world.
I am so hip even my errors are correct.
I sailed west to reach east and had to round off
the earth as I went.
The hair from my head thinned and gold was laid
across three continents.
I am so perfect so divine so ethereal so surreal.
I cannot be comprehended except by my permission.
I mean…I…can fly
like a bird in the sky…

Pursue, righteousness, faith, love and peace.
2 Timothy 2:22
This is another testimony, I just have to share God’s goodness! In one day I’ve connected with several outstanding friends from Buffalo, New York. I am giggling with delight. It’s been many years since we attended an high school play, or encouraged our peers to join NAACP’s Buffalo Youth Chapter or danced all night! But the memories are pronounced and the cold days of walking in thigh high snow to our friends home’s remained forever etched in my memory. I bet their’s as well. My one regret is that my dear friend, Mileka isn’t here to celebrate this virtual reunion, Lord knows she’d appreciate this moment. She could always keep me abreast of what was going on and who married, had children and moved to another city. Surely, she must be gazing down from heaven and smiling! She loved reconnecting with friends and rlaughing about our high school days! We do grow up, face challenges, celebrate milestones and try to move past regrets with lessons learned and strive for better tommorrows.

Nicolette Mesiah

These friends from Buffalo’s yesteryears are doing great things in their communities and most assuredly are enjoying life! It makes my heart particuarly happy to know this!

Artistic Adornment from Evette V. Everett

I praise God for this; they are all accomplished in their own right. They are entreprenuers: jewerly designers with anointed bead work creations, event planners with healthy gourmet foods and and a radio personality, but more importantly an officiando on Jazz Music. They all have exuberant spirits and are boldly accomplishing and treking down innovative paths. I am confident that the Holy Spirit concurs that they are our poster persons of grace and accomplishment! It’s ok to model their persuaverance -“Just you do you! ” as Robin likes to say! In other words, live your life like only you can! Dream and don’t let go!

The Queen of Hang: Sheila E. Anderson

Well, I am sure you agree my friends this was so amazing-the benefits of the internet! One link my husband shared led me to three friends! It wasd done through the world wide web with the click of the mouse, and then my hitting send from my electronic mailbox, led me to their virtual doors. I pray they’ll stay in touch and we’ll evently see each other in person, really laugh out loud-eat some of Nicky’s great food as we celebrate with Shelia’s jazz collection serenading us and we acknowledge God’s goodness in allowing us to be who He’s has intended us to be! I pray you’ll reconnect with your friends very soon and share your testimonies. In the meantime be sure to visit their websites, support their endeavors and be confident that realizing your true mission and opportunity is in view! Blessings To You!

“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”
—Victor Hugo (1802-1885); poet, novelist, playwright
Foundation for a Better Life Quote of the Day March 16, 2009
I awoke early this morning to find that my husband was diligently writing his devotional: I Was Made for the Entire World to See . After reading it I felt like he had read my heart mail, my mind and sifted through my unspoken concerns. The words and sentiment he expressed was all mine. The Holy Ghost was right on target this morning. As I remained in bed, my prayers began to lift and then I recalled last night‘s dream of trying to convince my mother and grandmother to live with me instead of remaining “home.”

My plea was, “See it’s much too much snow and others had moved away, why not join them?” It’s really my heart’s desire that that occur along with several other family matters that are pressing me. It makes my heart anxious and my spirit down when I dwell on this. And then I remembered this wonderfully funny cartoon that Renita emailed. And sure enough the Better Life Foundation’s inspirational e-message stated that:

“Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.”
—Victor Hugo (1802-1885); poet, novelist, playwright

It’s apparent that God is encouraging me to include laughter in my life! Could this also be your case? My spirit is wondering: “At this moment Lord?” “Laughter!” Friends, He’s spoken, “Yes right this minute!”

I believe God desires that we not only make a joyful noise, but have a content spirit and merry heart as He works things out on our behalf! Just for fun I searched laughter on blueletterbible.com and several scriptures were referenced:

Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning

and your joy to gloom.

James 4:9

Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

Psalm 126:2

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.

Job 8:21

So, my friends I beleive that the lesson for today is: even in the midst of trials, testing’s, adversity, hardships, difficulties and misfortunes and uncertainties laughter is in order. Take a real good look; why it’s holding hands with joy! Yes; let the entire world see God’s glory in your laughter and in your heart just trust that the sun/SON (Christ Jesus) is shining on all that concerns you!

Did you mark calendars yesterday? I will now make note of this momentous day-March 11, 2009! If you were like me and unable to watch your favorite news program or catch a news blog because you were busily tackling your daily assignments; in case you missed it, a spiritual and natural phenomenon was in motion in the Nation’s Capital. The White House was buzzing yesterday! Love, redemption and reconciliation were the order of the day! The wellbeing of women and girls was the focus! President Obama signed an executive order creating the White House Council on Women and Girls.
Sojourner Truth said, “Ain’t I a woman too!”
Sojourner’s convicting spirit must have been felt passionately by the Obama’s!
Once again, our President Barak Obama and First Lady Michele Obama have bulldozed through another mountain of social ills. The mountain of adversity and prejudice that many women struggle daily to climb is being systematically being eroded. And I say, “Bravo!” it’s time to globaly impact women’s lives for the better!
It’s exciting to say the least that our White House is prioritizing better economic and social treatment for women and girls. This is not just a typical lip service and a photo opportunity! I believe this is bigger than we know.
I contend when woman have the social safeguards and offerings of improved opportunities; their lifestyles and lively hoods reflect their true worth! Their families and their legacy are spiritually rich and ultimately they prosper. The possibility change from dismal to bright! Women around the world can look forward to better days! I am encouraged with this lively hope!
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
Psalm 31:24
Thank you President Obama for the establishment of the White House Council on Women and Girls and also honoring with the U.S. State Department, International Women of Courage. It was a blockbuster day! Yes indeed, you are accomplishing great things, keep letting your inner divine light, God’s love and your humanity shine! You make us proud!
