Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.-
1 John 3:18

For me and several of my close friends we concurred that this day it was evident that we witnessed an outpouring of God’s love. It really was another opportunity to celebrate GOD’S goodness, live out my dreams and meet more book lovers searching out the isles for a their book(s) of choice, possibly a sports magazine, a gift book, an inspirational book, a favorite author or just hoping to stumble upon a new literary discovery. And God would have it that yours truly would be seated near the front door this Saturday afternoon, with a smile of course- urging the prospective customer to come and see what I believed could encourage them on their life’s journey!! I prayed that my devotional would be their great find pf the day! It’s a I can’t contain this new kind of energy/joy that causes me to stand, walk around the tables, hug the customers, laugh out loud, really loud and in celebration announce in a rather loud tone of voice “Yes, I am the author, let me share with you how my book was birthed and the intent behind the title: The Blessedness of Believing A Devotional Journey of Life’s Lessons and God’s Promises.” Surprisingly people indulge me. 🙂
Here are some of the customer, well wishers and store Managers that added the devotional to their personal libraries. They have no idea how honored I feel by their support

It makes my heart leap when friends enter the front doors, moments after I arrive at the bookstore to celebrate God’s faithfulness through the publication of my devotional and then they proceed to share with others about the life changing messages that are contained in the devotionals.

God has done it again shown His love and consideration for all of us. But also, I do believe that if you look closely it’s evident that I am a good example of how He’ll stretch us and allow us to survive personal storms and live to tell about it and marvel at the outcome. Like the sweet little baby coming through the door happily waving, smiling and running towards me caused me to giggle with sheer joy. She didn’t know me, but I sure was delighted with her enthusiasm to see me. I knew it was a divine confirmation and a beautiful gift from God to be assured that even in the most unlikely places of our lives- the love of God nurtures us, overtakes us, surprises us and blesses us as we embrace the newness of life.
Thank you Lord, for you love awaits us! Have a great day my friends.

Breakthroughs Do Come

May our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father,

who loved us and in his special favor gave us everlasting comfort and good hope,
comfort your hearts and give you strength in every good thing you do and say.
2TH 2:16,17 (NLT)

So much is happening in our lives. I heard TD Jakes say this morning never in his entire life has he seen such dire economic times. We are all living with this reality of a tough time. The plunging stock market, our tight paychecks and absent retirement plans are resounding indicators that we can’t place our trust in chariots or men. There’s such an economic burden on families that it’s bursting the fabric of an already frayed institution. What is that you ask? Why it’s our precious families? The cost of living is sky rocketing, our kids are faced, no they are bombarded with such demonic messages with perverse undertones in videos, slick advertisements, and dare we not leave out the internet. Oh there’s good to be learned and appreciated in our techno savvy world, but daily we all face the challenge of staying afloat and holding on to vestiges of our humanity, upholding our sanctity for life, reverence for God and yes our sanity in really a very insane world.

I heard someone say: “But God!”

I thank God that Wall Street, nor the negativity that attempts to penetrate our airwaves, our lives and ultimately slips under our door ceils, can monolopolize our Hope.

As I zoomed down the highway I witnessed a stream of sunlight breaking through the gray puffy clouds. I knew that moment was for us. Hold on to your faith and remember that no matter the gray and dreary predictions that’s not the final authority/word. The Son of God JESUS and the SUN/the fruit of the spirit: (faith, joy, peace, love, [victory], [patience]) can penetrate our lives! The Son Of God is our protector; God’s word is our sword and shield.

As for God, his way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God arms me with strength; he has made my way safe. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, leading me safely along the mountain heights. Psalm 18:30-33

I’d like to believe that this is another moment to stop and reflect on how faithful and sovereign our Lord and Savior is. There is an everlasting hope, a change agent a rock of Gibraltar which will anchor us, shore us up and beacon us to His green pastures and we can take heart that a breakthrough is eminent! Just you wait and see; the sun does surely shine!!!

Of course you know me by now? I just can’t keep a good thing to myself. Instead of recreating the wheel with a new post, I simply inserted the photos that we enjoyed taking of the authors, book lovers, writers and the ODU Mascot ! Why I didn’t capture the musicians, well you know? I was caught up in the atmosphere of meeting fellow commorades and did I ever enjoy it!! During the week I’ll be sure to introduce you to several outstanding authors that I had the pleasure of meeting. As they say, I’ll introduce to some and present to others those that also seemed to be enjoying this wonderful Sunday afternoon at Town Point Park. I am extremely grateful to have been apart of such a superb day!! Music and books what a novel idea! Can’t wait till next year!

“…I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving and

tell of all thy wondorous works.”

Ps 26:7 KJV

Much to surprise my camera’s batteries were weak and finally died only after I just taken a few pictures. Yes, I was truly disappointed. So my friends, my pictures are only the tip of the iceberg with providing you an accurate visual of the day’s activites. Kudos to the founder of The National Christian Writers’ Conference, Ms. Renee Bobb (http://www.reneebob.com/) who provided an extraordinary serive for not only those aspiring to become writers, but those published authors seeking more knowledge about the mutli-facted book business/publishing industry on September 20, 2008.
This was my a first for me, being in the company of so many writers, authors and guru’s of the publishing business. I believe that although each conference attendee was on an assignment- a divine mission to either promote, share knowlege, glean or simply be encouraged to hold fast to their God given dream(s) or vision(s)-the common denominator for all was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and attesting to our Lord’s consistant goodness.

I was again assured in my spirit that prayer and faith in God are the covering-the essential ingredients for realizing our dreams. I had wisdom enough to understand that I was truly blessed that my steps had been ordered to attend this conference and be exposed to such an anointed group of people.

Here are a few of the resources and anointed individuals that Renee Bobb invited (i.e. editors, authors, entreprenuers, marketing experts, consultants, producers/directors- with ministries that edify and build up others) THAT ARE ENCOURAGING ALL OF US TO CONTINUE TO EMBRACE OUR HEART’S DESIRE THROUGH THIS RESOUNDING THEME OF: “IT’S TIME TO TELL YOUR STORY!”

“Strength, Courage & Wisdom”
Inside my head there lives a dream that I want to see in the sun
Behind my eyes there lives a me that I’ve been hiding for much too long’
Cause I’ve been, too afraid to let it show’
Cause I’m scared of the judgment that may follow
Always putting off my living for tomorrowIt’s time to step out on faith,
I’ve gotta show my faith It’s been illusive for so long,
but freedom is mine todayI’ve gotta step out on faith,
It’s time to show my faith
Procrastination had me down but look what I have found, I found

Strength, courage, and wisdom

And it’s been inside of me all along,

Strength, courage, and wisdom
Inside of me
Behind my pride there lives a me, that knows humility
Inside my voice there is a soul, and in my soul there is a voice
But I’ve been, too afraid to make a choice’
Cause I’m scared of the things that I might be missing
Running too fast to stop and listen
It’s time to step out on faith,
I’ve gotta show my faith

It’s been illusive for so long but freedom is mine today

I’ve gotta step out on faith it’s time to show my faith

Procrastination had me down

but look what I have found,

I found

Strength, courage, and wisdom
And it’s been inside of me all along,

Strength, courage, and wisdom
Inside of me
I close my eyes and I think of all the things that I want to see
‘Cause I know, now that I’ve opened up my heart I know that

Anything I want can be, so let it be, so let it be.

Strength, courage, and wisdom

It’s been inside of me all along,
Strength, courage, wisdom

It’s been inside of me all along, everyday I’m praying for:

Strength, courage, and wisdom
find meah,

Strength, courage, and wisdom
Inside of me

I found it in me,
I found it finally

I’m sure to keep it’ cause I like it,

I say thank you.

INDIA.ARIE LYRICS http://www.azlyrics.com/

A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.
Proverbs 24:3,4 NLT

By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.
Proverbs 24:3,4 NIV

As I intently listened to the lyrics of Strength, Courage and Wisdom, the words really captivated my soul. India Aire was singing my anthem and my hand spontaneously hit the ceiling of the car and I knew I was praising God for once again helping me make my way. Saturday morning had been a marathon, running to Barnes and Noble, then off to Kinko’s and finally arriving at my destination-the hospital. Every opportunity to share my book, participate in a booksigning , a reading/open mic, write a devotional whatever transpires related to my devotional, I truly count it all joy!

I have wisdom enough to know it just doesn’t have to be, but faith, love and wisdom are spurring me on to realize what I am longing to do more of does transpire, but indeed there are some hurdles and disappointments. We must readily embrace our heart’s desires and proclaim in our spirits that God makes the way and anoints us to handle the journey. Today, my hindsight is 20/20! One day that will be my spiritual foresight-20/20!

Yes, this was a praise moment as we rode bound for Sentara Hospital’s Care Plex in Hampton, Va. I breathed a sigh of relief that my husband spoke some encouraging words Friday evening, and I had not totally succumb to my disappointment about my delayed book shipment not being on my door step (my compassionate Marketing Rep was equally upset), and about Kinko’s not being able to read the email sent with my business card, and my not being able to bring the amount of books I had desired to the American Heart Association Fundraiser with local Hampton Roads books author’s. Instead I was able to contact my local Books A Million to learn that all the books they had ordered had been sold out! This was feeling crazy! But then I thought, “Hey this is not a bad problem to have.” Borders book store and Barnes and Nobles was my back up plan. Wait , listen to this: they provided me with the news that a whooping 5 books were available for sales at Barnes and Nobles-Borders had only 4 left. Buying my own books- “Go figure that!” as the kids say!

Why was this occuring? Many reasons I suppose.

That morning was designed to frustrate me to no end, and I was almost there. I take no credit for having courage, nor faith about this unraveling situation. I thank God for my husband’s statement of: “You know you can still go!” made all the difference. I washed my face and then we proceeded to map out -a new plan!

There are several life lessons which I now realize are evident. Like my using better judgment with managing my time relative to my dream- ordering my books, and business cards, anticipating the unexpected but having strength an enough courage/wisdom/faith to trust that with God great good comes out of trial. So friends it does seem so simple now, but God does use our predicaments as teaching moments. I am sure that the Holy Spirit has conveyed that never, ever are we to throw in the towel, or abandon a God given life enrichment opportunity to live out our dreams. Friends I believe this was for all of us-the builders of our dreams! Take heart have courage , gather your strength and Go! I’ve got great wisdom now, but had not Ricky shared his divinley inspired insight-his voice of reason I possibly would have thrown away another great moment-a gift to fellowship with some wonderful colleagues and friends:

This is my comfort in my affliction,
for Your Word has given me life.-Psalm 119:50

How could it be that I had the priviledge of sitting in rocking chair on my back screened-in porch and watch the winds blow, see the broken tree limbs hit the ground with a heavy thud, witness the heavy rain appearing to fall at a peculiar angel , drenching the yard and comfortably read my Essence Magazine?

Yes, it’s that peace that passes all understanding, I suspect! I could feel the breeze and experience the mist from the heavy rain occasionally wash across my face! And yes, I was undisturbed? It wasn’t a flood, but it was a tropical storm.

There are too many occasssions when we can hardly stand, let alone sit calmly in a favorite chair and witness the malay of our topsy turby lives. But, I was blessed in this instance to be able to say to you my friends that God is our great comforter even during our trials and personal storms. Possibly the Holy Spirit is recommending that we sit in our spiritual/mental rocking chairs when the storms of life are raging and simply rest and be reassured in our souls that God has this thing under control. He’s got it figured out and we don’t have to be overwhelmed and afraid for our lives!

Much of what sustains me, even when I have no understanding of why I am “holding it together” is my heavenly/spiritual foundation which generations before me established. Their prayers continually carry me through the valley’s and up the summits! Their prayers and pettions are the ministries that heal and bless me during these unpredictable turbulent times. And now like you, I have my own prayer closet, my arsenol of devotionals, my tried and true Holy Scripture, not to mention there’s a neighborhood ministry that I can seek out, devoted friends with a word in season, love of family members both natural and extened that I can entrust with my burdened soul with. I am sure you agree that these indiviual and spritual resources are also healing ministries. Oh yes, there’s a Grief Counselor that can be found on the internet or in the yellow pages and then there is me!

God has equipped me to boldly go before the throne and say what the matter is and what I have immediate need of. We children of the most high God have been given this wonderful priveldge. So join me in remembering God’s constant love, His outstretched hands, His stirring our hearts to seek out His words that will wash over our weary and often rain soaked souls. We can take comfort that sometimes being absolutley still is the ministry that can provide a greater healing than we ever imagine! I belieive His word tells us to “Be still and know that I am God!!”

Take heart my friends and grab a glass of sweet tea or a cool drink of your liking and let’s sit a while, rock and look out into the yard and watch God work His works of healing and restoration!

In Bishop Kenneth Ulmer’s words, “Our God reins no matter the storm. God is King of the storm!” Enjoy listening to Bishop Ulmer’s (Faith Central Bible Church) sermon: The Voice & The Storm on StreamingFaith.com at: http://www.streamingfaith.com/directory/odc.aspx?ProgramId=6260421

Country First…God First

Plunky groovin playing Drop on his horn

Congressman Bobby Scott & Dr. Williams

US Senator Webb

Marcia Price and Friend

Former Governor Mark Warner candidate for US Senate

Governor Tim Kaine

“Plunky” Keyboardist Tonya Lazenby-Jackson

Statesman Obidiah White

We have heard over the past few days the call to put “Country First”. More importantly leaders of our country should know that we are praying for them.

Paul told Timothy…I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. I Timothy 2:1-2

This past weekend I met several of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s leaders. Hosted by Congressman Bobby Scott at his Annual Labor Day Picnic. He provides this each year for the people of Newport News and his congressional district. This was the rallying call to vote for Barak Obama and the slate of Democrats in Virginia. The food, music, revelry and comradery were wonderful, but I had to remember to pray for them. Pray first that their judgments and laws are lead-ins to the people living peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Putting country first means putting God’s creation first. We are the creation and deserve to live in the abundance of peace. When you hear of Country First; pray that we live in peace and that our leaders in government put God first.
